Creative Growth - The Fashion Show, Beyond Trend 

The annual Fashion Show fundraiser, “Beyond Trend” for The Creative Growth Art Center in Oakland, California is beautifully documented by Filmmaker Cheryl Dunn. We see the entire production from behind the scenes to the runway, which features Erica Tanov’s clothing line based on artwork by Creative Growth artists, and worn by models and the artists alike. Creative Growth has been a home for artists with mental and physical disabilities since 1974.

Creative Growth - Aurie Ramirez Pin Stripe Soup

Artist Aurie Ramirez’s watercolor and ink compositions are often influenced by her love of The Addams Family and the rock band Kiss. Fragments of 18th century dandyism, neo-Victorian decorum, psychedelia, Venetian masquerade, Glam Rock sex and Punk fetishism are expressed in her work which has been shown at White Columns and Gavin Brown’s enterprise in New York, the Jack Hanley Gallery in Los Angeles, ABCD in Paris, and Collection l’Art Brut in Lausanne.

William Tyler is one of the longest attending artists at the Creative Growth Art Center. He is a productive, dedicated artist whose meticulous drawings reflect an intricate narrative using images from both his personal experience, cultural icons, and his perspective on the world at large to create a symbolic place where order reigns over emotion.
